Planets are generally classified into two groups. They are,

Natural Benefics – Planets that are in good nature and gives good effect.  (Jupiter, Waxing Moon, Venus)

Natural Malefics – Planets that are in bad nature and gives bad effect. (Sun, Mars, Saturn, Waning Moon, Rahu & Ketu)

(Mercury is exception as it does good and bad based on association between benefic and malefic planets)

The above are general and very basic classification which is known to beginners in the subject of astrology. Many people think that if Jupiter Dasa or Bhukti or Antar starts, He will give wealth, fame and every good effects. This is wrong. Jupiter will cause serious troubles irrespective of his good nature. To understand it we must learn another set of classification based on each Lagna. Yes, this is very very important to know for any astrologer and astrology student.

For each of the twelve Lagna’s there are planets classified into two groups. They are,

Functional Benefics -  Gives good/shuba effects to the particular lagna Native

Functional Malefics - Gives bad/ashuba effects to the particular lagna Native

Functional, means how each and every planet behaves for each of the 12 lagnas/Asc. This classification is based on the functions of each house and their lords.

Generally, the planets that own 3,6,8,12,2,7,11 from any lagna are functional malefics. There are planets that own two houses. Sometimes both good house and bad house, at that time they give mixed results.

General rule is that Lagna lord is always good irrespective of whether it is natural benefic or natural malefic planet. Lagna lord is forced not to give its results if it is associated with any of the functional malefic planets, so the person with this kind of horoscope chart will have to struggles.

The functional malefic planets for persons born in any of the 12 different Lagna/Asc are described below.  It is a must to worship and do proper remedy for these bad effect giving planets in order to improve their status in life. Lagna and Lagna Lord are weakened by these functional malefic planets if they are related to it in their birth charts.

Rahu and Ketu gives results upon association malefic or benefic planets.

So, the Lagna or Ascendant Lord has tremendous power in shaping a human’s life when it is not disturbed. But if the functional malefic planets associate with it in any horoscope chart, then the person concerned may suffer from miseries and may have to struggle to come up in his life. Usually during the Mahadasa or Bhuki or Antar periods of functional malefic planets, the person suffers. Moreover if these planets are Retrograde(Vakra) , then there is nothing to tell. கிரகங்கள் பொதுவாக இரண்டு பிரிவுகளாக பிரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. அவை,
இயற்கை சுபர்கள் - நன்மை செய்யும் கிரகங்களான‌ குரு, வளர்றை சந்திரன், சுக்கிரன்.
இயற்கை அசுபர்கள் - தீமை செய்யும் கிரகங்களான‌ சூரியன், செவ்வாய், சனி, தேய்பிறை சந்திரன், ராகு மற்றும் கேது.
மேலே உள்ள பிரிவுகள் பொதுவானவை. 

இது பற்றி ஜோதிடம் பயில்பவர்களுக்கு முன்னதாகவே தெரிந்திருக்கும், ஏனேனில் இது அடிபடை பாடத்தில் வரும். சிலர் குரு தசா அல்லது புத்தி அல்லது அந்தர் நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் காலங்களில், அவர்களுக்கு குரு செல்வத்தையும், புகழையும் மற்றும் நற்பலன்களையே வழங்குவார் என்று எண்ணிக்கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர். அது தவறு ஆகும் குருவும் சில நேரங்கள் விபரீதமாக செயல்படுவார். இதை பற்றி நாம் அறிந்து கொள்ள நாம் வேறு வகையான கிரகங்களின் பிரிவுகளை கற்றுகொள்ளவது அவசியம். ஆம், இதுதான் ஒவ்வொரு ஜோதிடர் மற்றும் ஜோதிடம் பயில்பவருக்கு மிக மிக முக்கியமான ஒன்றாகும்.

12 லக்னத்திற்கும் தனித்தனியாக கிரங்களை இரு பிரிவுகளாக பிரித்துள்ளனர். அவை, ஒவ்வொரு லக்னத்துக்கும் கிரகங்களின் சொந்த வீட்டின் செயல்பாட்டை பொருத்து பிரித்துள்ளனர். இந்த செயல்பாடு என்றும் சொல்லை வைத்து தான் ஆங்கிலத்தில் உள்ள ஜோதிட புத்தகங்களில் "Functional Benefics and Functional Malefics" என கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதாவது,

சுபர்களாக செயல்படும் கிரகங்கள் - நன்மை மட்டும் செய்யும் கிரகங்கள்
அசுபர்களாக செயல்படும் கிரகங்கள் - தீமையை மட்டும் செய்யும் கிரகங்கள்.

ஒவ்வொரு வீட்டின் செயல்பாட்டை அறிய இங்கே கிளிக் செய்யவும். நிறைய செயல்பாடுகள் லக்னம் முதல் பண்ணிரென்டு வீடுகளுக்கு உண்டு, பொதுவாக நாம் எடுத்து கொள்ளும் செயல்பாடுகள் மேலே லிங்கில் கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

பொதுவாக எந்த லக்னமாக இருந்தாலும் கிரகங்கள் 3,6,8,12,2,7,11 ஆகிய வீடுகளுக்கு அதிபதியானல் அவை அசுபர்களாக செயல்படும் கிரகங்கள் ஆகும். கிரகங்கள் இரண்டு வீடுகளுக்கு அதிபதியாகும் பொது அதாவது சுப மற்றும் அசுப வீடுகளுக்கு, அவர்கள் பலன்களை நன்மை மற்றும் கெடுதல் கலந்த கலவையாக தருவார்கள்.

பொது விதி என்னவென்றால், லக்னாதிபதி எப்போதுமே நனமையை தான் செய்வார் அவர் இயற்கை சுபரானாலும் சரி, இயற்கை அசுபரானாலும் சரி. லக்னாதிபதி இந்த அசுபர்களாக செயல்படும் கிரகங்களுடன் சேர்க்கை பெறும் போது அவர் நன்மைகள் செய்ய முடியாமல் தவிப்பார். 

ஒவ்வொரு 12 விதமான லக்னத்திற்கும் உள்ள அசுபர்களாக செயல்படும் கிரகங்களின் பட்டியல் கீழே கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஒவ்வொரு லக்னத்தில் பிறந்தவர்களும் அதற்கு உண்டான தீமை செய்யும் கிரகங்களை அறிந்து சரியான முறையில் வழிபாடுகள் செய்தால் வாழ்க்கை மேன்மையடையும். லக்னம் மற்றும் லக்னாதிபதி பலம் இழப்பது இந்த தீமை செய்யும் அசுபர்களாக செயல்படும் கிரகங்களால் தான்.

ராகு மற்றும் கேதுவின் பலன்கள் அவர்களின் சேர்க்கையை பொருத்து அமையும்.

எனவே, மனிதர்கள் வாழ்வில் முன்னேறே லக்னம் மற்றும் லக்னாதிபதிதான் அவர்களுடைய ஜாதகத்தில் மிகபெறும் சக்தியாக செயல்படுகிறது. அவர்கள் இந்த அசுபர்களாக செயல்படும் கிரகங்களோடு சேர்க்கை பெற்று செயல்பட்டால், துன்பமும், போராட்டமான வாழ்வைத்தான் வாழ்ந்திட நேரும். அதுவும் இந்த அசுபர்களாக செயல்படும் கிரகங்களின் தசா அல்லது புத்தி அல்லது அந்தர் காலங்களில் துன்பங்களை மிகுதியாக தரும். இதில் மேலும் இவ்வாறான கிரகங்கள் வக்கிரம் அடைந்திருந்தால், சொல்வதற்கு ஒன்றும் இல்லை. வாழ்க்கை குழப்பங்கள் நிறைந்தவையாக இருக்கும்.
